«Luís Gutierrez is a Nicaraguan artist whose work shows an incredible combination of tradition, love and reverence for his cultural roots.
As a youth growing up in San Juan de Oriente, an indigenous village known as a center of traditional pottery production, Luís learned the age-old techniques of forming clay pieces from his father and other family members. He is an innovative artist drawing upon the tradition and ecology of San Juan de Oriente’s region. Luís takes inspiration from the natural world he knows from his youth, incorporating novel moXtifs into intriguing representations using the local clay from his hometown.
The fish, the birds, the animals that impressed him as a child swirl and blend into each other over the surfaces of many pieces of his work. Others show a thoughtful talent that takes geometric design to a new and spectacular level. And the intricate designs are finished with astounding detail found nowhere else other than with a few artists back home who have begun to replicate this unique creativity».

«I recently had the pleasure of meeting Luis Gutierrez, a Nicaraguan potter. More importantly, I had the opportunity to experience his work. The pieces are finely formed and exquisitely decorated. His work is reminiscent of Pre-Columbian forms and decoration carried well beyond its inspiration both in graphic design and color; some of the best new work of its type I have seen.I recently had the pleasure of meeting Luis Gutierrez, a Nicaraguan potter.
